The Emerald Mountain Rescue Team

Luke Ritter

The Emerald Mountain Rescue Team is pleased to announce that they have successfully recovered Francois La Croix, the famous flamingo, author, and explorer who went missing during last Wednesday’s snowstorm after flying too far from his natural habitat. In order to achieve this daring rescue, they keenly analyzed three literary clues found in the area: a poem and diary entry by the famous avian, and a news clipping about a local ELA teacher who thought he saw a flamingo out in the snow. They also used orienteering and their knowledge of decimal addition to keep their bearings in the snowy terrain.

After the rescue, the team discussed how the same story can be told in different ways depending on its reason, audience, format, tone, and topic (acronym: RAFTT!). They concluded that sometimes, we have to consider many different sources and perspectives to be fully informed about different stories we hear. It was clear that this skill definitely contributed to their success out on the mountain today.
